Maryland Unemployment Benefits

Maryland unemployment benefits & rules are made available at the Maryland Department Of Labor's website DLLR at:

https://secure-2.dllr.state.md.us/NetClaims/Welcome.aspx  .  Anyone interested in filing a claim for unemployment benefits must first familiarize themselves with the Maryland unemployment benefits & rules as they are established in the Claimant’s handbook.  The Maryland unemployment benefits & rules are fairly simple to understand and directly affect who is eligible for unemployment compensation benefits.  Taking a few minutes to carefully review the Maryland unemployment benefits & rules will ensure that the claimant understands the filing process and how benefits are determined.

According to the unemployment benefits & rules defined by the DLLR, anyone filing for unemployment must:

a) be unemployed or partially employed and making less than one would make if getting unemployment compensation benefits;

b) complete the entire unemployment application either online or via the telephone;

c) report any earnings from part time, full time, or self employment;

d) be able to work and actively seeking work;

e) report all job refusals, and must also file on a weekly basis for benefits.

In order to apply for unemployment compensation benefits in the state of Maryland the claimant must give the DLLR a call at the call center at (877) 293-4125 .  The application can be completed online as well at https://secure-2.dllr.state.md.us/NetClaims/Welcome.aspx .  While completing the application, the claimant will need to offer information about dates of employment, names of employers, employers’ addresses and telephone numbers, and information pertaining to one’s most recent employment.  When the application is processed, the DLLR commission will make a determination of eligibility based on monetary eligibility, separation qualifications, and weekly eligibility guidelines.

For a claimant to receive benefits he or she has to have earned enough money during a base period or the first four out of five completed calendar quarters.  What one made on a weekly basis directly affects how much unemployment compensation one receives if eligible.  Eligible claimants are notified by the DLLR.
